The East Harlem Chalk Festival is sponsored
each September by Grupo Tizón, a non-profit grassroots group of El Barrio artists, parents and community residents.
Organized by Puerto Rican visual artist José Morales and East Harlemnite Manny Segarra,
Grupo Tizón brings together NYC artists and hundreds of children from El Barrio to create original drawings in vivid chalk colors using 104th Street as their canvas.
Reflecting the growing diversity of East Harlem, images of Puerto Rican flags are drawn side by side with la Virgen de Guadalupe.
It was a hot sunny day full of color and fun and great works of art by visual artists of all ages.
